Urban Farming
ALAS Urban Farmer in Residence and founder and director of Nourish L.A. Natalie Flores, teaches the kids the basics of planning, planting, & growing a home food garden.

Book Club Explorers
ALAS Executive Director and avid reader, Armando Valdes-Kennedy, guides the kids through an exploration of the ideas, message, and writing style of age-appropriate books. The kids will read one book per month, and be encouraged to share thoughts on the story and the writing style verbally and in a journal.

Farm-to-Table Cooking
ALAS Culinary Artist in Residence, Paige Murtaugh, teaches the kids the basics of choosing healthy ingredients and preparing plant forward meals. The kids will learn how our vibrant, nourishing cuisine is inspired by the seasons, ancestral exploration, and a love for the land.

Storytelling Through Photography
A professional photographer herself, Ivonne Carvajal, will teach and guide her students through photography for storytelling, creating a visual presentation based on the child’s individual perspectives, their everyday experiences and the people closest to them.

Money Management
ALAS financial expert Bob Niemack teaches the kids the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make responsible financial decisions throughout life.

Music Production
Come learn modern Music Production and Beat Making using professional hardware and software! This will be a hands-on workshop led by Music Producer and Sound Designer Keith Kohn will focus on play and understanding the basic elements of music creation.
